Prescription Drug

Indication

Therapy of infections caused by bacteria sensitive to azithromycin monohydrate

  • Lower respiratory tract infections, including bronchitis and mild to moderately severe community acquired pneumonia
  • Upper respiratory tract infections, including sinusitis and pharyngitis/tonsillitis (azithromycin monohydrate is not the substance of first choice for the treatment of pharyngitis and tonsillitis cause by Streptococcus pyogenes. For this and for the prophylaxis of acute rheumatic fever penicillin is the treatment of first choice)
  • Inflammations of the middle ear
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Uncomplicated Chlamydia trachomatis urethritis and cervicitis

When giving antibiotic treatment account must be taken of antibiotic resistance and of the official/local regulations relating to the appropriate use of antimicrobial therapy.
