Prevention and treatment of minor skin infections

What is the medicine used for?

This medicine may be used for the following conditions:

  • Treatment of minor skin infections such as pyodermas (lesions containing pus), impetigo (contagious pyodermas), erysipelas (infections characterized by redness and swelling), decubitus ulcers (skin sores), and infected wounds
  • Prevention of infection in minor cuts, scrapes, burns, abrasions, insect bites, pimples, pustules, and other skin breaks
What is in the medicine?

This medicine is a topical antibacterial ointment containing bacitracin, polymyxin B Sulfate and neomycin. These agents are used for the prevention or treatment of superficial skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria. The combination of these three topical antibacterials is more effective than when used singly since together it gives better antibacterial coverage and affects different types of bacteria responsible for various skin infections.

  • Clean the affected and adjacent area with mild soap and water.
  • Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
  • Apply a thin layer over the affected area 1 to 3 times daily, or as directed by a doctor. May cover with sterile bandage.
