Can Good Digestion Lead to Weight Loss

Can Good Digestion Lead to Weight Loss

Staying healthy doesn’t have to be expensive!

There are numerous benefits to having a healthy digestive system and weight loss may be one of them. Losing weight is a common dilemma for individuals who need to shed a few pounds for medical reasons or for those who simply want to look good. The ultimate reality that one has to face is that there is no easy way to lose weight and that there are no shortcuts to this process. However, having excellent gut health may be one of the keys to losing a few pounds.

Have yourself checked

Annual physical exams can help you determine the current state of your overall health. Take note of the essentials like your blood sugar levels, body mass index (BMI), and body weight. Your health provider will interpret your tests and it is expected that you adjust your current lifestyle habits depending on the results. Do not be discouraged when your physician says you are below/beyond your ideal weight because there are several easy solutions to this problem.

Reflect on your lifestyle

Unfortunately, most health problems are caused by bad lifestyle choices like smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating too much unhealthy food. Try to make a conscious effort of incorporating more healthful ingredients to your meals like vegetables, nuts, and fresh fruits. Digestive disorders like dyspepsia are often caused by overeating and bingeing on empty calories such as sweets so it’s essential for you to eliminate these bad habits if you want to improve the process of digestion.

Who are at risk

Anyone can suffer from digestive problems including children and most especially the elderly. Those who have sedentary lifestyles and people who don’t exercise regularly may have slower metabolism. Veteran weight-loss researcher Dr. Timothy Church explains in an article that “losing weight isn’t easy but keeping it off is even harder.” Daily exercise is said to remodel the way your metabolism works so it burns more fat than usual.

Recommended diet for healthy digestion

Exercising regularly is useless if you eat more calories than what you previously burned from that workout. Eating foods rich in fiber like whole grains, beans, broccoli, and lentils is highly recommended. Stay away from carbonated drinks, chocolates, cigarettes, and alcohol so you can reduce the occurrence of hyperacidity. Avoid “cheat meals” even on weekends to prevent yourself from binge eating that may eventually lead to indigestion. Stick to a strict eating schedule of eating small frequent meals throughout the day and never skip breakfast.

Develop good habits

The first step to a healthy lifestyle is having annual checkups and following your doctor’s orders. Watch what you eat and chew your food properly. Limit your alcohol intake to 1-2 glasses a day and always stay hydrated by drinking at least eight glasses of water daily. If you do not have access to a gym or a personal trainer, try to set step goals every day most especially if you are working a desk job to help boost your metabolism.

Preventive measures

Some people can still suffer from indigestion even if they lead active lifestyles and this is due to other uncontrolled factors like age, heredity, and profession.   Always consult your doctor before drinking any kind of medication, including vitamins. Keep in mind that your physician is in the best position to prescribe the right kind of treatment for your condition. Immediately stop using a product if you experience negative side effects.
