What is the medicine used for?

These medicines are used for the relief of clogged nose, runny nose, itchy, watery eyes, and sneezing associated with the common cold, upper airway cough syndrome (postnasal drip syndrome), allergic rhinitis, and other minor respiratory tract infections. They also help decongest sinus openings and passages.

What is in the medicine?

This medicine contains Phenylephrine HCl and Chlorphenamine maleate.

Phenylephrine HCl, a nasal decongestant, clears obstructed air passages and nasal sinuses due to congestion making breathing easier. It also reduces postnasal drip.

Chlorphenamine maleate, an anti-allergy, relieves symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and itchy, watery eyes.

How much and how often should you use this medicine?

These medicines should be taken orally (by mouth).

Age Group

Oral Dose of Phenylephrine HCl + Chlorphenamine maleate (Disudrin®) every 6 hours

  2.5 mg / 0.5 mg per mL Syrup (Oral Drops) 5 mg / 1 mg per 5 mL Syrup
Children    
1 to 3 months 0.25 mL  
4 to 6 months 0.5 mL  
7 to 12 months 0.75 mL  
1 to 2 years 1 mL  
2 to 6 years   2.5 mL (1/2 teaspoonful)
7 to 12 years   5 mL (1 teaspoonful)
Children over 12 years and Adults   10 mL (2 teaspoonsful)

Formulation
Each mL suspension (oral drops) contains:
Phenylephrine HCl 2.5 mg
Chlorphenamine maleate 0.5 mg
Each 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) syrup contains:
Phenylephrine HCl 5 mg
Chlorphenamine maleate 1 mg
